EMDR and Brainspotting
Therapy
I have been using EMDR extensively, with children and adults, since 1994.
It is a powerful brain processing therapy that helps with all kinds of
trauma, anxieties, and physical symptoms.
Brainspotting is a new therapy technique, discovered by David Grand, Ph.D.
It is closely related to EMDR and involves the client visually focusing
on a point in front of their eyes. This spot is believed to be directly
connected to the place in the brain where the specific issue that the
client is focusing on is located. The client then processes the issue
with the use of auditory bilateral stimulation, listening to CDs
that are recorded with the sound alternating between each ear. This is
the same kind of bilateral stimulation that activates processing the right
and left brains with EMDR. Brainspotting has been found to produce very
focused and deep clearing of troubling memories. It is also helpful in
treating physical symptoms that are related to psychological causes.
Brainspotting and EMDR can be used to
treat:
Sexual abuse, physical
abuse, emotional abuse
Anxiety, fears, nightmares
Dysfunctional life
patterns
Medical traumas
Distressing memories,
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Preparing for future
events such as test taking, public speaking, sports performances
